At approximately 9:45 this evening, a packed crowd at a damp Nationals Park erupted as the news spead that the Atlanta Braves had fallen to the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1. The Braves’s loss clinched the National League East Division title for the Nationals, who were just about to start the bottom of the ninth inning in a losing effort (2-0) against the visiting Phillies. The Federal City hasn’t had this kind of news in 79 years.
