WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced today from the dugout steps of Nationals Park that the home of the Washington Nationals major league baseball team would be renamed Antonin Scalia Field in memory of the recently deceased Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
The senior Senator from Kentucky credited former Representative Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) for the inspiration behind the name change. Bachmann said the idea came to her “in a vision.” No comments from Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert Manfred, D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton or D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser were immediately forthcoming. The Nationals will host the Miami Marlins in the home opener at Antonin Scalia Field on Thursday, April 7.
